What it measures

Calprotectin, a protein released by white blood cells into the bowel during inflammation, measured in a stool sample. Results are read against a cut-off (often 50 µg/g).

Lab: Various (Labcorp, Quest, Genova, Doctor's Data) · Specimen: Stool (at-home kit or lab drop-off)

Evidence level: Established

NICE recommends faecal calprotectin testing as an option to support clinicians in distinguishing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in adults with recent-onset lower GI symptoms when cancer is not suspected, and in children with suspected IBD referred for specialist assessment, with quality-assured pathways.

FAQ

Is calprotectin included in other stool tests?

Yes. Comprehensive stool panels such as GI-MAP and GI Effects report calprotectin among other markers; this page compares standalone calprotectin tests.

Where is the sample collected?

Some tests are at-home kits; Labcorp OnDemand collects at a Labcorp location.

Why do prices differ so much?

Sellers set their own prices for the same lab's kit and may bundle practitioner authorization, consultations, shipping or add-ons. The table shows the price and any separately listed fees as posted on each seller's public page on the date checked.

How current are these prices?

All prices were checked on Oct 19, 2026. Prices and availability (including state restrictions) change; confirm on the seller's page before ordering.
