Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA): price comparison
7 listings from 4 sellers, from $94 to $255 including separately listed fees. Last checked Oct 19, 2026.
What it measures
Concentrations of nutrient and toxic elements (minerals and metals) in a hair sample. Labs report different element lists and reference ranges.
Lab: Various (Doctor's Data, Mosaic, others) · Specimen: Hair sample (at-home kit)
Evidence level: Not validated
A JAMA study sent a split hair sample from one person to six US commercial labs (which together analyzed about 90% of US samples) and found more than 10-fold differences for 12 minerals and conflicting reference ranges; the authors concluded these analyses were unreliable for assessing individual nutritional status or environmental exposure. The AAAAI/ACAAI 2014 practice parameter also lists hair analysis among unproved tests for food allergy.
